A View from the Other Side

Good Morning! In case you missed the blog this weekend, here is a recap!

And, the best part…A guest post from my husband!

As Holly’s husband, I know first hand the passion Holly has for her blog and information that goes into it.  Believe me, she has very little downtime.  She often works 50+ hours a week, attends her MBA classes two nights a week and has an enormous amount of work to do at home.  Even through all of that, her passion has been to maintain this blog.  Whether it’s midnight on a weekday or 20 minutes after breakfast on Saturday, Holly is devoted to the things she writes about.  To be honest, I was very leery of what she was doing when she started blogging.  I would occasionally stalk the site to see what was being talked about.  I always wondered what the heck she was doing with the camera laying around the kitchen all the time and I was curious how these pictures appeared of Holly in front of the TV doing one of her workouts.

I have seen Holly’s time evaporate as she has delved further into school, but at the same time, her free time is spent trying to be healthy and creating relevant posts to those of you that read her blog.  I have tried to help over the last couple months….taking a few pictures of our experimental meals or joking that I would write a guest commentary on her blog.  I think the thing that I would like to most impress upon the readers is that what you see is what you get with Holly.  There is absolutely no BS when it comes to her posts.  She tells it how it is, plain and simple.  It struck me the other day that Holly is a good representative of the average person.  No, she isn’t the size 0 model in the catalog, and no she isn’t a nutritionist or world-class athlete.  She is the typical 30-something with a busy life and trying to find a way to incorporate a healthy lifestyle.  She is just like 90% of you.  She doesn’t have fitness as her business.  She doesn’t market her recipes in a cookbook.  Don’t you ever stop and think that so many of the people we listen to about fitness and nutrition do nothing else all day?  In essence they are paid to be fit or create meals.  How could any of us expect to live that kind of life when so very few of us can devote that kind of time?  Holly doesn’t try to say, “do it my way,” or “eat this, not that”.  She simply provides realistic feedback about workouts and recipes that we have tried and that can be prepared in a reasonable amount of time without visiting every specialty store in a five-county area.

So why do I bother to write this?  First, I would like to think it is tribute to Holly and everything that she has to incorporate into her life.  Second, I think that many people could benefit from what Holly has to say.  She is right where many of you are…just trying to find enough time in the day to get everything done.  For any of you that have lived with someone that is so stretched, you will probably agree that stress is the biggest detriment to a healthy lifestyle and healthy relationships……and our family is no different.  The saving grace in managing the stress has been exercise.  We all know that when we work out and eat healthy we have more energy, but we also get a healthy dose of endorphins released (I am no doctor, but I think that is what it is called).

In conclusion I would have to admit that I would probably never read a blog of a female that wanted to talk about fitness and nutrition.  Many of us bull-headed, egomaniac men refuse to believe we can find anything relevant or from female bloggers.  As it turns out, Holly is posting so much about things that are a direct reflection of what happens in our household.  I suppose that makes me a hypocrite, but at the same time it inspired me to write this and ask each of you to take a look at the stereotypes and preconceived notions about what we believe and who we listen to about healthy living.   Holly will try to evaluate many of the available workouts available and incorporate timesaving recipes that REAL people can make and enjoy.  Please take the time to come back and visit what Holly has to say.  She loves being able to share what she finds and increased readership will give those endorphins another boost as well.  If you know people that could benefit from real feedback and a positive spin to an insanely busy life, please invite them to visit the site.  Holly will be making some additional changes as time allots. If a skeptical and cynical individual like me can see the value, anyone can.  Invite your family and friends to take a look…………..

Wow – he sounds like a keeper Holly. I just started reading your blog about 2 weeks ago and I couldn’t agree more. I totally feel like I can relate to you and that is what keeps me interested and motivated. Great job! And one question – do you eat those overnight oats cold? Hard for me to imagine eating cold oatmeal.

Thanks! He is pretty supportive with my crazy schedule. How did you find out about the blog?

I came across it on exercise tv. Your review of Jillian 30 day shred sparked my interest.
